Episode 260: Amanda Grace (Singer/Songwriter) [Minnesota]
Wednesday Apr 10, 2024
Wednesday Apr 10, 2024
Episode 260 features Amanda Grace, a songwriter from Minnesota whose style drifts between folk, alt-pop/rock, and Americana. Amanda just released her eighth album called 'Give Me Away,' and I featured the title track as well as a song called 'The Last Ones,' which we discussed in our conversation. If you like either of them, you can check them out whenever you buy or stream music. Amanda has an often retrospective and rhetorical lyrical style that she hopes will inspire self-belief and encourage others to push for what they believe in, even when the world tells them it might be too difficult. In the interview, we talked about her new album, being a mom, and balancing long days with creative pursuits. Go check her out on all social media platforms and give her a follow. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Episode 259: Man Must Explore (Alt Rock) [Albany, NY]
Tuesday Apr 02, 2024
Tuesday Apr 02, 2024
Episode 259 features Man Must Explore from Albany, NY. They are an alt-rock band who has been releasing music since 2021. In the interview, I spoke with Ryan & Thomas. They will be in town playing a show at The Undercroft in Baltimore this Thursday, April 4th, and we (The Hollow Truths) will be joining them on the bill as well as New Clarity & Makeup Girl. So, I wanted to get the guys on the show to talk about that, as well as their music in general. It was a fun conversation; we covered all the usual working musician topics, as well as a few other random things, such as our ideas on songwriting, our theories on Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd, and the importance of art in the modern age. The band name is taken from the words spoken by astronaut David Scott on the Apollo 15 mission: 'I sort of realize there’s a fundamental truth to our nature, Man Must Explore, and this is exploration at its greatest.' I featured the tracks 'Rx' and 'Tsunami'. If you like either of them, you can find Man Must Explore on all the streaming and social media platforms. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Episode 258: Jeremy Parsons (Singer/songwriter) [San Antonio, TX]
Tuesday Mar 26, 2024
Tuesday Mar 26, 2024
Episode 258 features Jeremy Parsons from San Antonio, TX, a country songwriter who first began releasing music in 2010. After living in Nashville for several years, Jeremy returned to Texas where he released his last album, ‘Things to Come,’ in 2021. It was added to a Spotify Editorial playlist, earning over 137,000 streams of the title track. I wanted to have Jeremy on the pod after serendipitously catching his set at a bar during SXSW in Austin last week. I really enjoyed his thought-provoking lyrics and the way his songwriting seemed to resonate with my own sensibilities. I specifically noticed his song “I Am” and featured it on this episode. In our conversation, we discussed the Nashville and Texas music scenes, overcoming addiction, as well as making a living as an artist. He’s also crossed paths with some notable names during his time in Nashville, which we also discussed. If you like his music, definitely go find him on social media and/or any of the streaming services, or check out his website listed in the episode notes. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Episode 257: Adam Trice of Red Sammy (Americana Rock) [Baltimore, MD]
Tuesday Mar 19, 2024
Tuesday Mar 19, 2024
Episode 257 features Adam Trice from the band Red Sammy, a group hailing from Baltimore that draws influences from rock, americana, folk, country, indie, and blues, infusing their music with thoughtful, deeply emotional lyrics. Their latest album, "Holy Fluorescent Light," has just been released. I showcased their song “Ernest and Bukowski” on this episode, and if you enjoy it, you can stream it wherever you listen to music. During the interview, we delved into Adam’s songwriting style, which involves collaboration with his college professor on lyrics. We also explored the Baltimore music scene and discussed the challenge of maintaining creative output into adulthood while balancing a regular job. Since we met in person, the episode ran a bit longer than usual. We started it off with a fun little tangent about Ai before delving into the music discussion. Thank you for tuning in and supporting local music.

Monday Mar 11, 2024
Episode 256 features Shelby Morgan from Baltimore, MD, an aspiring pop star whose music is influenced by artists such as Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, and Pink, among others. I first met Shelby at a show we played together a little while back and enjoyed her on-stage theatrics. I wanted to get her on the show to talk about her brand-new album, "Confessions of a Drama Queen," which just dropped last week. I featured her song, 'Sex, Secrets, Promises,' and if you like it, you can stream it wherever you listen to music. In our conversation, we covered various topics, including music, songwriting, pop heroes, and the process of putting oneself out there. I would also describe their sound as somewhat similar to the era of bands like Gaslight Anthem. In the conversation, we talked about some of the usual rock 'n' roll subjects like sex, addiction, and songwriting, as well as relationships, suicide, and creativity. It was a very fun interview, and whether you are friends or fans of Chris already or not, I hope you enjoy it. I featured their song “Whiskey & Women” which just came out. Episode 250: Joey Harkum (Americana) (Pasadena, MD]
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
Episode 250 is here! Featuring local legend Joey Harkum from Annapolis, MD. He has been touring extensively in recent years with his band as well as playing shows with his OG band, Pasadena. They have a big show on 3/16 at Baltimore Soundstage with Bond & Bently and Pressing Strings. I featured his brand new track “Better This Way,” which is a collaboration with the Joey Harkum Band, Pasadena, & Matthew Edward. If you enjoy it, definitely go stream it and follow Joey on all social media platforms.
I've been meaning to get Joey back on the pod for a while now to talk about everything he’s been up to and all the new music. Joey is one of the hardest-working songwriters in our area, and if you are friends or fans of his, I hope you enjoy the conversation. Whether part-time or full-time musicians, I think we can all take a little something from his work ethic and overall positive attitude in his lyrics. If you are listening outside of Maryland, look out for Joey in a town near you soon. Thanks for supporting local music and art.
