Episode 161: Titans (Hardcore) [Belgium/Netherlands]

This week’s episode features my guest Maurits from the Amsterdam/Belgium based metal band Titans. Titans is a "heavy melodic band, striving to bring a positive reflection on the darker aspects of life by means of strong lyrical storytelling." They’ve been releasing music since 2017. I featured their latest track called, “King Of Misery.” The song "highlights a pattern of self-destruction and self-hate while offering a message to embrace who you are and to be proud of your accomplishments, regardless of how trivial they may appear." So if you’re into the metal you can definitely check it out on Spotify or wherever.  But anyway, Mauritis and I had a fun conversation about everything the band has been up to and the general music culture in Amsterdam. Episode 160: Rattle Root (Roots & Roll) [Gaithersburg, MD]

We met up in person at one my favorite haunts (Gilley's) in Rockville, MD to talk about their music. They have an eccentric approach to songwriting and performance. Episode 159: Marc 2 Ray (Hip Hop) [Washington D.C.]

This week’s episode features Washington D.C. area hip hop artist Marc 2ray. He’s been releasing music for a few years now and has been using his lyrics to educate and empower during that time. Marc has Armenian Genocide survivors in his lineage which inspired him to write a song called “1915.” The track has been characterized as his most impactful release thus far and I featured in on this episode.  I also featured Marc’s latest release “True Craft” ft. Episode 158: The Mack Brothers (Alt Rock) [South Philly]

Episode 158 features my guests Matt & John from The Mack Brothers out of South Philadelphia. They are an Alt Rock duo who derive their sound from 2000s indie rock and 90’s brit pop. They just released two new songs, “There Goes My Baby” and “Just A Summer Away” respectively. I featured both songs on the episode. Episode 157: Tony Correlli of The Deep End Studio [Baltimore, MD] (Producer/Musician)

This week’s episode with is with local producer and musician Tony Correlli of The Deep End Studio in Baltimore. Tony has been recording music for over 20 years and is a massive supporter of the scene. We had a really in depth conversation about all the projects he has going on including a music compilation called The Charm City Sampler featuring all local artists. He also makes custom microphones for bands around the world. And his personal band is called “Steep Steps” which was featured in a movie soundtrack for an indie flick called “Butterfly Kisses.” So whether you are friends of fans of Tony’s hopefully you like the episode. I featured Steep Steps track called “Sophia.” You can see Tony at his next show at this year’s Maryland Science Center Halloween party. Episode 156: Jose Salazar of Los Kombi [Indie Rock] (Apple Valley, CA)

This week’s episode features Jose Rios from the indie rock band Los Kombi out of Apple Valley, California. I came across his music on the Indie Music Feedback subreddit and wanted to get him on the show. Los Kombi has an impressively polished west coast indie rock sound for a band that only recently formed during the pandemic. They just uploaded their first Spotify release called “Beverly” which we discussed in the interview. As well as Jose’s recording process and some of the things he’s learned over the past few years. The band has a show this Friday in Oldetown Victorville at 8pm, details for which will be on the flier on IG. I also listed the links for Los Kombi below in the episode description. Episode 155: Demi The Daredevil [Alt/Pop] (Austin, TX)

Episode 155 features Demi the Daredevil frontman Jeff Azar from Austin, TX. They describe their sound as alt/emo/pop and I would add that they certainly have a touch of theater in their sound. They have been making music since 2017 and have eclipsed over 4 million Spotify streams thus far. In our conversation we discussed our mutual interests in certain authors, Austin area landmarks, TX2, mental health, and the tragic events that lead Jeff to take the reins as lead singer of the band. Episode 153: The Big Laird Band (Brett & Matt) [Hard Rock] {Baltimore, MD}

Episode 153 features my long time friend Matt “The Big Laird” Harris. This is his second time on the show. Matt and I have been playing in cover bands for the last 10 years now but have yet to record any original music together until now. We recently released a video for a new song called “5 Shots In” which we shot at Cult Classic Brewing. We had a fun conversation after a show the other night surronding the back story behind the song as well as a bunch of other stuff, including Matt’s background in swimming and underwater training, which apparently helps with singing.
