Episode 200! Feat: LJR, DJR, The Slang, Dylan/Brett [Baltimore, MD]
Thursday May 04, 2023
Thursday May 04, 2023
Episode 200! features my longtime friends the LJR (Luke Roberts), the DJR (Daniel Roberts), The Slang (John & Felix), and my brother Dylan. All former guests of the show. We had a fun round table discussion/celebration of 200 episodes and talked about all the things we’ve been up to collectively. We spent a fair amount of time roasting each other as well as talking about some of our general philosophies everything from pop culture to music. LJR & DJR has been playing a lot of shows lately, The Slang have been releasing new music, and Dylan and I we’re able to join forces on an episode again for the first time since episode 3. Anyway I just want to say thanks for everyone who’s listened to an episode over the last few years and also thank everyone for supporting local music in general, which despite our banter, is what this podcast is all about. On this episode I featured my band’s new track “Gimme Back My Guitars” by The Hollow Truths and at the end I featured “More Time” by LJR.

Episode 199: Tom & Rob from 1001 Album Complaints (Podcast) [Bay Area, CA]
Tuesday Apr 25, 2023
Tuesday Apr 25, 2023
Episode 199 features Tom and Rob from the podcast 1001 Album Complaints. The guys break down The Greatest 1001 Albums of all time while also adding their often spicy hot takes. The idea spawned after reading a book called The Greatest 1001 Albums of All Time. If you’re into musicology or just a music nerd like myself you’ll definitely appreciate their show. Rob and Tom also play in bands and I featured a couple of their songs on this episode. One is called “The Away Team” by The Beverly Crushers and the other is “Lord of the Beef Lands” by Ghost Beef. In our conversation we talked about their love of Arby’s, the TV show Silicon Valley, songwriting, as well as the bands and musicians they love to hate. The guys also just released their 100th episode which dives deep into Led Zeppelin II. Check them out on all the streaming platforms.

Episode 198: The Campbell Apartment (Garage Rock) [San Fransisco, CA]
Tuesday Apr 18, 2023
Tuesday Apr 18, 2023
Episode 198 features Kevin Frank of The Campbell Apartment who are from San Francisco. Kevin is the bassist of the band. Their sound could be described as garage rock with punk and pop influences. Frank and I had a fun conversation about all things music and tech. Frank grew up in the Boston area and moved to California about 20 years ago. So we talked a little bit about the east coast as well as the Bay area music scenes. They guys also have a new album that they are working and it should be coming out soon. On this episode I featured “Bay Area Robot Farm” and a brand new unreleased song called “Fun In The Sun” which comes out next week. If you like them you can find them wherever you listen to music. Definitely give The Campbell Apartment a follow on any of their socials for updates. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Tuesday Apr 11, 2023
Episode 197 features Brandi L M & The Bottomshelf from Austin, TX. She is a pop/alt/rock singer songwriter originally from York, PA. Her songs generally focus on mental health and the stresses of working while being an aspiring musician. In our conversation we talked a lot about her recent move to Austin as well as a lot of candid stories regarding her struggles, successes, and goals. Brandi is currently a full time musician and has been releasing music since 2019. I featured her most popular song “Sleeping Alone” on this episode. If you like it you can definitely stream it wherever you listen to music. Thanks for listening and supporting local artists.

Episode 196 features CabbaGe, who is the host of the In The Patch With Cabbage, a local skate podcast here in Maryland. He is longtime staple of the local skateboarding scene. Even going as far as pro in the 90’s when he moved to San Diego for a time. CabbaGe is also a big time fan of music and has played drums in many bands around the area including Lumber, Witherod, The Stone Dust Riders, & Sporadic Sunjam. On this episode I featured “Stress” by Lumber and “Gone Too Long” by Withrod. If you like either of them you can find them on band camp at the link in the episode notes.
I first met Cabbage through the Sunrider9 crew in Catonsville, MD (episode 127). He was gracious enough to invite me over to his compound and do a joint episode. There is a part II to our conversation on In The Patch With Cabbage with also releases this week. So if you are into skateboarding or local music definitely go find it and give CabbaGe a follow. He is a highly entertaining interviewer and a great story teller. In this episode alone we talked about his time traveling the world on skate tours, getting Shamu high while working at Seaworld, as well as selling the O.G. VHS tapes of the Pam Anderson/Tommy Lee sex tape at a trade show for beer money, among other things. So whether you are friends of fans of his show, thanks for listening and thanks for supporting local music/art.

Episode 195: E.R.I.E (Albany, NY) [Americana Punk Rock]
Tuesday Apr 04, 2023
Tuesday Apr 04, 2023
Episode 195 features Matt and Levie from E.R.I.E out of Albany, NY. I would describe their sound as nostalgic punk rock or maybe "Americana" punk rock if such a thing exists. They have a similar sound to one of my all-time favorite bands, The Menzingers. The guys have a brand new full length album dropping this Friday called “Suburban Mayhem” and I featured the track “Bad Man’s World” on this episode. The album is available on the usual streaming platforms as well as on vinyl in their webstore which is listed in the episode notes. In our conversation we talked about how the album was inspired by their singer’s recent time in the hospital after he suffered an emergency cardiac event. Fortunately it sounds like everything is well now and the band has grown stronger subsequently. They have an album release show this Friday, April 7th at Lost & Found in Albany, so definitely go check it out if you are listening in from the upstate NY area. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Episode 194: Souls Extolled (Psychedelic Rock) [Austin, TX] {SXSW series}
Friday Mar 31, 2023
Friday Mar 31, 2023
Episode 194 is final episode from our mini-SXSW series, featuring our buds Souls Extolled of Austin, TX. They are a psychedelic rock trio who describe their sound as “Ozzy having a love child with Rancid on acid.” Singer/songwriter Zach Black was kind enough to let us stay at his place while we were in town. This is technically Souls Extolled third time on the show but it was our first time doing in an interview in person. We sat down at the bar after their set at Hole In The Wall ATX and talked about everything the band has been up to since we last met in NYC. Since their national tour in 2022, the guys have focused on writing and recording another record as well as playing shows around Texas. So we talked a lot about that and the general state of the music scene in Austin.

Episode 193: Makeshift Tapedeck (Indie Rock)[Monroe, LA]{SXSW series}
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
Tuesday Mar 28, 2023
Episode 193 continues with the mini-SXSW series that I’m doing and features my guests Makeshift Tapedeck out of Monroe, LA. I ran into them quite randomly in Austin at a venue/bar called Hole In The Wall. They were sitting at a picnic table unsuspectingly when I sprung an impromptu interview on them. I spoke with Cole, Joel, and Asa in the conversation. We discussed the origin story of their band, some stories from the road, as well as who has the gnarliest farts in the van. I had to keep the interview a little on the shorter side due to some time constraints but I’m hoping to get the band back on the show later on in the year. You can check out Makeshift Tapedeck’s music on Spotify as well as on this episode. I featured their song “Snooze.” Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Episode 192: Part-Time Rockstar Custodian (Indie Rock) [Philadelphia, PA]
Wednesday Mar 22, 2023
Wednesday Mar 22, 2023
Episode 192 features my guest Mike Hertz of the band Part-Time Custodian. They are an indie rock band with what I would describe as slightly country and almost southern sound. Mike has been playing the singer songwriter circuit around the east coast for years and his story telling is certainly a large influence on the band’s sound. I wanted to get him on the show because we are playing a show together this weekend SATURDAY AT THE GRAPE ROOM IN PHILADELPHIA at 8pm with our friends and former guests of the show The Mack Brothers, as well Haha Charade. My band The Hollow Truths will also be playing NYC at Rockwood on Friday night. In any case whether you are friends of fans of Mikes hopefully you enjoy the conversation. You can find the band’s music on the links below. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.

Monday Mar 20, 2023
Monday Mar 20, 2023
Episode 191 features my guests The Brown Goose from Tallahassee Florida. They are a 5 piece rock outfit whose latest album is called “This Is The Way." I featured their hit song “Courthouse” which we talked about in the conversation. I also slapped on another new song of their's called “Runnin’ The Streets.” This is the first of 3 episodes that I was able to do while playing South By Southwest in Austin last week. So it will be a mini-series of sorts. You can catch The Brown Goose band likely touring around your city sometime soon. Their next big shows are The Handlebar in Pensacola, FL April 16 opening for Austin Meade, as well as The Tallahassee Wine Mixer on March 25. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.
